AsciiCOM is a document-oriented data management viewing program developed in Visual C++. It runs on personal computers under Microsoft Windows using familiar, industry standard dialog boxes and tool bar buttons. It allows operators with little or no computer experience to easily access, view and distribute documents stored on CD-ROM or other storage media. In addition, asciiCOM provides the following capabilities:
asciiPRO is the complementary processing software. It is used to process the client's information onto CD-ROM or other media in standard A.S.C.I.I. (American Standard Code of Information Interchange) format, along with exclusive high-speed indexing and retrieval algorithms. The key to the asciiCOM/asciiPRO performance advantages lies in the special, high-speed indexing system.

AsciiCOM/asciiPRO is not a relational data base system, but rather uses specially designed high speed compressed index files to allow superior access, retrieval, and sorting. AsciiCOM retains all data in ASCII standard format on CD-ROM or other media, so it can easily be accessed by other PC software, and other computer operating systems or application programs. Indeed, one of the system's features is a "clipboard" which can pull information out of asciiCOM for use in other Window applications (e.g. Word, Excel, etc.).

When data is processed by asciiPRO, the program produces a client-specific indexing system, in addition to the standard A.S.C.I.I. data files. This indexing system allows asciiCOM to readily and quickly access a particular page or pages of information. Documents can be accessed by up to eight different indices, and retrieval can be any combination of sequences. As previously mentioned, the fast access of asciiCOM results from the unique index setup program utilized by asciiPRO. In a typical application, asciiPRO reads the standard input data files and prepares asciiCOM "view" files by:

  1. Processing the selected pages into an A.S.C.I.I. data file(s);
  2. Extracting each pages indices as defined by the user and Computrex during the specification of the client's system;
  3. Sorting the index record indices accordingly for fast retrieval and access by that particular asciiCOM user;
  4. Compressing the page/index access file to occupy minimum space alongside data files.

Although the archived document files are readable by any Windows application, other PC software, other operating systems etc., the indexing files are typically only meaningful to asciiCOM and asciiPRO. Thus, asciiPRO provides the client with the ability to organize, sort and consolidate data in a manner that precisely fits a particular company or organization's operating needs.
